Just How Big Is Twitter In 2012? [INFOGRAPHIC]

Did you know that Twitter now has around half a billion registered profiles, with over 100 million in the USA alone?
What if I told that, collectively, Twitter users now send 175 million tweets every day? And that the most popular events on Twitter generate (literally) tens of thousands of tweets every second?
These statistics, and more, can be found in this Twitter visualization from Infographic Labs, which reminds us of the sheer size of the network in 2012.
Other key takeaways include:
  • While the USA leads the way, Twitter is also massively popular in Brazil, Japan and the UK
  • Twitter’s most-followed user, Lady Gaga, is rapidly closing in on 20 million followers
  • 64 percent of users access Twitter via Twitter.com
  • Tweets containing (the somewhat vague) ‘interesting content’ are most likely to be retweeted
  • 69 percent of users follow others based on recommendations from friends
Some of this data is a little behind the times – Twitter moves really, really fast – but this is a great one-shot overview of Twitter in 2012.   (Source: Infographic LabsTwitter bird via Shutterstock.)

Using Youtube For Traffic

Anybody who uses Youtube regularly for traffic will tell you that there’s nothing like the kind of visitor it provides. Having a Youtube channel is like having another website, working away for you twenty four hours a day gaining loyal followers for your content. When a Youtube visitor finds your video, and enjoy what they find, they will more than likely have a look at your Youtube channel to see if there are any related videos. At this point, if you have done a good job on creating plenty of great content, then they will subscribe to your channel. You now have had the same sort of reaction that your blog would get, the only difference being that they have subscribed to a channel rather than signed up for your newsletter, or bulletin system. You can contact these users whenever you want, and let them know about your other online presences, such as your blog or Twitter profile. If they are enjoying your content, they will go right ahead and sign up/follow.

Amazingly, many people forget to optimize their Youtube videos, and miss out on some great link juice that this provides. By adding your keywords to your title and description, and including a link to your website, you have the opportunity to increase traffic seriously. An important thing to remember, besides optimizing, is to ensure your Youtube videos are branded with your color schemes and logos. You can watermark the video, or simply have a short intro to the content. People buy into branding very quickly, and it can be a vital part of marketing. To ensure you are getting plenty of video views, you need to get your link out there and marketed, just as you would your website. Bookmark and share your video link on as many different social sites as possible, and always remember to include your keywords in your descriptions etc.
