How to Get Your Dream Domain Name When It's Already Taken

In the world of the Internet, your domain name means everything. Unfortunately all of the good and generic domain names are taken and getting your hands on any of these gems can cost you thousands, if not millions of dollars! One of the best ways to get your hands on a valuable domain name is through the use of expiring domain name services and auctions.

Two of my favorite domain expiration services are NameJet and Pool. I’ve been using these guys for years and have been able to secure some amazing domains names. Many of the domains I’ve secured through these networks are domains that I was just wishful thinking on and if they ever happened to expire and I could get my hands on them, I gladly would. Other domain names that I have been able to pick up are pure gems, such as my Pay Per Click blog with ended up costing several thousands of dollars just for the domain itself, but brings a massive amount of value, immediate brandability and “exact match” search ranking power with it.

As mentioned, my two favorite domain expiration services are NameJet and Pool, so I would recommend you sign up for a free account with both of these services. Once you are setup you can start browsing through their sites and looking over their featured domain names that are up for expiration and even place a future bid on domains that may become available in the future. It doesn’t matter if you are looking to secure your own “YourName.com” domain name, or picking some generic domain name that would never expire, you can make a “wishlist” of domain names and these networks will monitor as many domains as you like, and you won’t have to pay any fees until you actually win and secure a domain name.
The minimum price to place an initial domain bid is $69, but this will vary depending on the expiration service you use. Should any of these domain name go up for grabs, you will be notified and if you are the only one bidding on the domain name, you are the winner! If anyone else is bidding on the same domain name, you will all go into an auction process.

Getting Your Domain Name Outside of Expiration Services

Expiring domain name services are awesome for grabbing valuable domain names that may soon expire, but what about when someone has a domain name you must have but they aren’t easy to contact or looking for a sale. Here are a few methods that may help you with a possible sale.
  1. Use Whois to look up domain owner ship contact info
  2. Contact the site owner through their contact page
  3. Pay a professional service like GoDaddy Domain Buy Service

Building Your Own Domain Empire

It doesn’t matter if you are looking to build an empire of domain names or just looking to get your hands on a couple high end domain names that you’ve always, with the resources listed above it can all be possible. As mentioned, I’ve been able to secure some amazing domain names over the years, and many of which that I never thought we become available, let alone drop!
The best way for you to get the domain names you have always been dreaming of, is to take action now. Join the sites I mentioned above and start making your wishlist of domain names. You never know when one of these gems might drop and end up in your possession!

  3. Nice article. Almost everyone has this situation. Whatever domain name we prefer would already have been taken. I too faced this situation. But i got the same domain name from the registrant after a bargain. I got the registrant information of my favourite domain name by having a Whois search from WhoisXY.Com It was very useful for me.
